Overview

The new Microsoft Edge web browser, based on the Chromium open-source project, is thriving. The browser is the most-used class of application on Windows and other platforms, and Microsoft Edge is currently used by hundreds of millions of users.

The Edge Web Experiences team is chartered to build the cross-platform web application story and developer tools that help web developers build, test, debug, optimize and deploy their web applications more productively. Progressive Web Apps, WebView, Edge DevTools, WebDriver, Webhint are examples of technologies we build and ship. Our goal is to help make web an excellent canvas that developers choose for their creations that span across Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and more. We partner closely with several teams across Microsoft - VS Code, Teams, Outlook, TypeScript, Visual Studio, Office, Surface, Xbox, Windows to enable developers to build great applications using web technologies. We are deeply engaged in the Chromium OSS project and continue to work closely with other browser vendors, web standards bodies, and the open-source community at large.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer Manager to grow a team focused on building our Hybrid Web Applications platform, enabling developers to take advantage of the best of what web and native technologies have to offer across Windows. We are looking for an individual with a great sense of customer empathy, rely on data driven decision making, have a passion for disruptive new ideas and enjoy driving innovation while balancing focused execution. Given the breadth of technology used to build interactive and immersive experiences on the web, the individual will have the opportunity to not only enable others to be successful but learn new technologies themselves. The tools, libraries, and frameworks leverage by developers are ever-changing, so we work in a fast-paced world that require customer empathy.

The ideal candidate is hands on engineering leader who motivates the team to achieve more, works across team boundaries and collaborates with partners. We are looking for experienced manager who exemplifies Model, Coach and Care and have a deep technical understanding of web development are ideal for these roles.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of people management experience with managing team of seven plus individuals .
  • Consistent track record of shipping compelling technologies across multiple product release cycles.
  • Ability to design performant, highly usable, scalable, world-ready, accessible software .

Other Requirements:

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Windows architecture and internals.
  • Windows app development and UX experiences.
  • Experience building software utilizing Web technologies, including HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript.
  • Experience working on the Chromium Open Source codebase.
