Overview

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services through planning, building, and operating Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure datacenters across the globe. CO+I is supported by multiple business verticals including supply planning and strategic acquisition, global construction, datacenter and edge site operations, critical environment and availability, engineering, and datacenter innovation.

To help us continue to scale and meet our customer commitments, we’re looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Senior Business Manager to join the Chief Technology Officer (CTO Office of CO+I). As a member of this team, you’ll have unique visibility into a key Microsoft business and the opportunity to drive impact across the CO+I organization.

You’ll be responsible for leading the organization’s rhythm of business, executive communication and engagement plans, and create/implement business processes and programs to meet strategic objectives and priorities. This is a strong leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high impact environments and possesses executive presence, stakeholder management, communication, and project/program management skills.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 6+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 5+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3 + years people management experience.
  • Demonstrated project management and organization skills with effective attention to detail.
  • Extensive experience collaborating across groups, building effective relationships and driving multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Effective executive acumen and experience collaborating and partnering with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to drive clarity through effective storytelling.
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment, excelling under pressure and adeptly managing tight deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
Business Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business operations for CTO office of CO+I through development and execution of organization's Rhythm of Business (ROB), strategic/fiscal planning activities, business and staff reviews, and setting objectives aligned with clear organizational priorities.
  • Maximize and extend the leader, acting as a trusted advisor and aligning organizational activities with leader's goals and key priorities. As part of the organization’s leadership team, cultivate and manage relationships with internal leaders. Seek and aggregate feedback to provide insights and perspectives to leader on organizational aspects, informing tactical and strategic decisions that influence organizational alignment and objectives.
  • Develop strong partnership with the CO+I Chief of Staff, Executive Office, and broader Business Management (BM) Community. Act as an extension of the Executive Office by disseminating appropriate information to leader and organization, connect dots across the business, and share best practices within the BM Community. Ensure CTO of CO+I BM Community is well connected, informed, and executing on strategy and business goals.
  • Manage organization’s financial, including forecasting/reforecasting, fiscal planning, discretionary (training, travel, and morale), and headcount management. Collaborate with key financial and recruiting partners to execute clear, forward-looking, and well-defined financial and recruiting strategy for the organization.
  • Design and oversee communication and engagement strategies, crafting content and creating clarity for leadership and organization. Utilize storytelling and programs, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint to track, communicate, and visually represent relevant, actionable information.
  • Drive accountability and execute core business activities by aligning business priorities with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance metrics. Create clarity in ambiguous situations to facilitate and drive prioritization and decision making for leaders across the organization.
  • Monitor organizational health and support the leader in responding to team culture issues, as well as promoting culture initiatives (e.g., Diversity and Inclusion [D&I], hiring, onboarding) while partnering with Human Resources to review and respond to team feedback. Track and drive role-based and compliance training completion rates and ensure a healthy compliance scorecard for the team.
  • People Management deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring. Live our culture, embody our values, and practice our leadership principles. Define team objectives and outcomes, enable success across boundaries, and help the team adapt and learn.
