Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence capabilties. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable a multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

The Azure Data SQL team is looking for a Principal Product Manager to drive the creation of analytics solutions that answer critical questions about customer usage patterns, identify opportunities for growth, and address pain points in the customer journey.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with relational database management systems, such as Azure SQL Database, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. and optionally in distributed systems or Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Experience as a data professional either in the field of data product management, data engineering, or data science

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Expertise with all aspects of the data stack and tools such as Power BI, Kusto/Azure Data Explorer, Data warehouses, Data lakes and AB testing systems.
  • Reliable analytical problem-solving skills to address deeply complex problems and issues.
  • Executive presence, leadership, exceptional communication skills in influencing customers and senior executives.
  • Embrace diversity of thoughts and backgrounds and lead others to do the same.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

We need a skilled practitioner who can combine customer research, direct data analysis, and experimentation to inform and improve the growth strategy for Azure Data SQL.

  • Reporting and Visualization: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to stakeholders. Ensure that data is presented in a clear and accessible manner. Establish a quality bar and improve accuracy of ingested data and reports
  • Customer Success Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of user behavior to understand acquisition, engagement, and retention patterns. Use these insights to drive product decisions and improve user experience
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Oversee the collection, storage, and analysis of data. Work closely with data engineers and analysts to ensure data quality and relevance. Analyze data trends to inform product enhancements and identify new opportunities
  • Data Strategy Development: Define and implement data strategies that align with business goals. This includes setting data-related goals (OKRs) to ensure the right data is always available and actionable
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, executives and data science organizations to define the telemetry needed to understand customer behavior across the service. Excellence in communications with ability to work across different teams, partners, and geo locations. Ability to tell a story, clearly present your ideas and obtain feedback from peers and partners
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Establish protocols for data governance, security, and compliance. Ensure that data handling practices meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices
