Overview

Azure Customer Engineer – Developer Community

The world of business is undergoing a significant transformation with the next Digital Revolution, the move to the cloud. Azure is at the forefront of this revolution with an ever-expanding array of services and offerings. As this shift happens, the Customer Experience (CXP) team within Azure Engineering has been tasked to ensure that we build a vibrant technical community for Azure.

We are looking for passionate candidates with experience in Azure Data Engineering and automation to redefine the way we address community support, contribute to development initiatives, and improve Azure’s offerings. This role is ideal for someone who loves data engineering, automation, and contributing to the online community. Being close to both customers and Azure Engineering teams, you are in a unique position to identify top product and documentation issues AND be empowered to address them by creating impactful solutions.

As a Customer Engineer, you'll represent Microsoft and Azure as you interact directly with our community to provide effective and useful solutions, build prototypes, and advocate for innovation. You will also be the voice of the customer, providing actionable insights and driving product improvements. If you enjoy building, solving problems, and mentoring others, then we want you!

Qualifications

**Overall Experience:** 8 to 10+ years
**Relevant Experience:** 3 to 4+ years in Azure Data Engineering, automation, or similar domains.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Azure Data Factory: Intermediate and above
  • Azure Synapse Analytics: Intermediate and above
  • Azure Databricks: Intermediate and above
  • Azure Event Hub: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Azure Purview: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Azure Data Explorer: Beginner to Intermediate
  • ETL: Intermediate and above
  • SQL: Intermediate and above
  • PySpark: Intermediate and above

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • PowerShell: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Kusto (KQL): Beginner to Intermediate
  • Power BI: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Microsoft Fabric: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Coding knowledge (Python, .NET, etc.): Beginner to Intermediate
  • Other Azure services: Beginner to Intermediate
  • AI/ML: Beginner to Intermediate

Additional Requirements:

  • Engineering Mindset: Ability to ideate and lead automation initiatives, seeing them through to impact creation.
  • Tech SME Experience: Experience mentoring peers and contractors, especially as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in must-have areas.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong multi-tasker and self-starter with real passion for technology.
  • Strong communications/soft skills, with passion to deliver great customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging directly with Azure developers and IT professionals in Azure communities, including Azure PG groups, GitHub Repos, Microsoft Q&A, and Stack Overflow, to solve technical problems and provide insights.
  • Submit pull requests to fix bugs and implement new product features on Azure SDK repos.
  • Build prototype tools and models to analyze community data and improve efficiency.
  • Being the voice and advocate for our customer, reporting and acting on observed areas for improvement.
  • Providing prompt, efficient, detailed, customer-oriented service to Azure customers and developers.
  • Building and updating Azure product documentation to help customers deliver solutions on Azure.
  • Collaborating with Engineering and other multi-functional teams on specific customer-impacting issues and bugs.
  • Working with other community engineers to ensure a consistent and high-quality level of support.
  • Understanding how our customers use Azure services to provide valuable insights to business and development teams.
  • Actively seeking solutions to customer needs, communicating trends to leadership, and suggesting innovative solutions.
  • Assuming responsibility for developing detailed knowledge about specific product lines and features.
  • Improving internal efficiency and customer happiness by actively finding opportunities to optimize existing or new processes and tools.
  • Developing tools and workflows to optimize internal processes and enhance the customer experience.
  • Creating and optimizing solutions using Azure Data Engineering tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks.
  • Ideating and implementing automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual efforts.
  • Mentoring peers and contractors in technical areas where you are an SME.
  • Analyzing community data to derive actionable insights and improve processes.
  • Advocating for customers by sharing trends and feedback with leadership and engineering teams.
