We are looking for a Senior Applied Data Scientist to apply their deep security background and knowledge to detect attacks on Azure. This person should have a deep understanding of the broader threat landscape, modern cloud computing architectures, and what it means to detect attacks in a large-scale, operational organization supporting millions of customers. Responsibilities
- Work closely with security researchers, program managers, other data scientists, and engineering teams to help implement a data-driven strategy for detecting attacks against Azure Perform exploratory data analysis on massive data sets generated from telemetry.
- Perform experiments to determine the most effective approaches to detect attacks, including application of supervised, unsupervised, and anomaly detection machine learning techniques.
- Train and deploy machine learning models to production environments to support detecting new attacks on Azure.
- Implement machine learning pipelines for continuous retraining and evaluation of model performance Participate in planning how we should measure the most pressing threats to the Azure environment and guiding others in the creation and improvement of these metrics.
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C, C#, C++)
- OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C, C#, C++)
- OR Doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C, C#, C++)
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience in designing and developing production quality software for ML workflows using Python
- 3+ years experience in designing scalable systems and making architectural choices by clearly understanding the performance and cost trade-offs.
- 3+ years experience in cloud services, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience managing the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle using the latest MLOps practices.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C, C#, C++)
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C, C#, C++)
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience creating innovative research prototypes and POCs and help build production systems and services.
- Hands-on experience working with one or more of major cloud providers, including Azure, AWS, GCP, with proficiency in deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud-based solutions to support business objectives and enhance operational resilience and efficiency.
- Experience in the security domain, covering key areas such as vulnerability management, identity and access management (IAM), security incident investigation and response, and proactive threat hunting.
- Experience in implementing and managing security measures to protect systems, networks, and sensitive data, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and compliance standards.
