Microsoft Graph is the gateway to data and intelligence in Microsoft 365. It provides a unified programmability model that one can use to access the tremendous amount of data in Microsoft 365, Windows, and Enterprise Mobility + Security. Developers around the globe use the wealth of data in Microsoft Graph to build apps and automation for organizations and consumers that interact with billions of users that use Microsoft 365 products for work, school, and personal productivity. Our team manages the Microsoft Graph API gateway and routing service, which processes millions of requests per second on a global scale for billions of users and supports tens of thousands of APIs from various workloads. This mission-critical service requires high performance, low latency, and exceptional availability (99.999%). Our responsibilities include driving API design patterns, enabling sophisticated data and operation orchestration, centralizing security enforcement, enhancing observability, and meeting compliance and privacy requirements. Additionally, we provide Layer 7 proxy capabilities with a strong emphasis on protocol compatibility, DDoS protection, and minimizing last-mile latency.

We are looking to hire a Software Engineer II who is passionate about building distributed, highly available and secure services as well as who deeply cares about developer experience and attention to details. We are looking for passionate people with experiences working with all service aspects of high throughput and multi-tenant services, ability to design components carefully, properly handle errors, write clean and well-factored code with good tests and good maintainability. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions
  • Troubleshoot and optimize test automation, reliability, performance, and monitoring for production services - Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design reviews
  • Collaborate with mentors and leaders to gain a working understanding of Microsoft businesses -

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of professional experience in core software engineering building large-scale distributed systems
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience operating high-scale services in production environments.
  • Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services and software.
  • Prior experience building services which run on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Expertise in object-oriented language skills and experience in writing high-performance, thread-safe code that allows for serving requests in sub-millisecond times.
  • Experience with API development frameworks such as OData, GraphQL, gRPC.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
