Overview
As Senior Program Manager in the Product organization, you will own the end-to-end delivery of GitHub’s Responsible AI program (RAI). Working cross-functionally with leaders from Product, Engineering, Marketing, Security, Legal and other teams, you will build and lead a program dedicated to the ethical use of AI technologies, ensuring that GitHubCopilot is designed and deployed in a way that is fair, transparent, and accountable. In addition to working closely with GitHub stakeholders, you will be the primary liaison with the Microsoft RAI organization, serving as our Lead RAI champ.
As the right candidate, you have a proven track-record delivering highly strategic and complex programs in a fast-paced environment, along with the ability to articulate program vision, unite a cross-functional team, deliver against accelerated timelines, and proactively flag and mitigate risks. You have an executive presence, are analytical and data-driven, and a strategic thinker who is able to build relationships with ease.

The base salary range for this job is USD $104,400.00 - USD $276,900.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

Responsibilities
- Own the solution for your area. You will take operational ownership for GitHub’s AI program, working in close collaboration with stakeholders to build the vision and execute on the program, ensuring that it aligns with our overall strategy and with our Microsoft counterparts.
- Become an expert on how GitHub builds products and how our customers experience those products from various software developer and development-adjacent roles. You will also understand the domain, trends, prior art, and the history behind areas of product operations.
- Be comfortable balancing trade-offs and managing risks. This is a high-ambiguity space that is rapidly evolving and changing. Be ready to incorporate new information and requirements on a regular basis, and guide Product, Engineering, Design and other teams through the ambiguity.
- Collaborate across teams. You will drive changes that impact multiple organizations thoughtfully while also keeping all stakeholders aligned. You will play a critical role creating alignment between Product teams, Privacy, Legal, Microsoft’s Office of RAI and product and engineering teams, and the wider GitHub organization. We win or lose as a team.
- Communicate effectively and proactively. You will communicate with the team, leadership, and key stakeholders frequently and effectively. You will clearly, concisely, and assertively articulate the problems being solved, the roadmap, its benefits and tradeoffs, and serve as a role model for collaboration and creating alignment across teams.
- Measure success. Own the measures used to define success for your area. You will proactively incorporate usage data and other measurable operational metrics into findings and plans. You’ll make measures visible to all stakeholders and interpret them into actionable conclusions and new hypotheses.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years experience in engineering, design, product management, product/design operations
- Or a Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, design, product management, or product/design operations
- OR equivalent experience
- 4+ years experience managing and executing programs with minimal supervision, working in an environment that has a high degree of ambiguity and complexity
- 4+ years experience demonstrating strong analytical abilities and attention to detail, coupled with sound business judgment, maturity, and effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
- 4+ years experience exhibiting persistence on programs/projects, applying emotional intelligence to determine when to continue pursuing a strategy and when to explore alternative approaches
- Familiarity with modern software development practices
- 1+ years of experience with Machine Learning (ML) and/or Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and projects
- Experience bringing clarity to situations with a high level of ambiguity
- Previous experience working with a software delivery team
- Self-starter mentality, yet a team player with a collaborative approach
