The Ads Fraud Detection works at the confluence of Security and ML(MAchine Learning). We build machine learning models for identifying and filtering fraudulent web traffic.We protect advertiser ROI and strengthen the integrity of the ads ecosystem.

Our algorithms need to run in real time at web scale. We continuously strive to operate in a high precision/high recall space to best serve advertisers, publishers & end users.

This role is available in Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA.

As a Senior Applied Scientist(Fraud Detection) with the Fraud detection team, you will work on building machine learning models to detect complex fraud attacks which are constantly evolving. You will work on all aspects of fraud detection - anomaly detection to find traces of new attacks, correlation of multiple data sources to define the perimeter of fraud attacks, development of new machine learning models and pipelines to catch attacks before they can impact the advertising eco-system while respecting user privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build efficient fraud detection machine learning and statistical models for different ad implementations that run at web-scale.
  • Define and analyze recent fraud attacks with a goal to abstract out directional trends and build anomaly detection models to anticipate new and upcoming attacks.
  • Create threat models for new ad scenarios, and design mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze and incorporate additional signals that continuously improve fraud detection.
  • Create tools and techniques that allow us to scale to increasingly complex landscape of advertising scenarios.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ year(s) of experience in at least two of the following areas: statistical machine learning, anomaly detection, fraud & risk, deep learning, data mining.
  • 1+ year of experience in applying Machine Learning (ML) in security space.
Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers) in top tier ML conferences (Special Interest Group in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (SigKDD), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM),Neural Information Processing Systems Datasets and Benchmarks (NeurIPS), International World Wide Web Conference (WWW)).
Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
