We're looking for a Senior Product Manager for Radius, a new Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) project from the Azure Open-Source Incubations team. We're part of the Chief Technology Officer's office and we're responsible for identifying new product ideas, incubating those ideas, and if they're successful, handing those incubated ideas off to Azure's service teams. We work closely with the open-source community as part of our endeavor.

We've created a psychologically safe environment for experimentation and incubation. When we find good ideas, we double down on those ideas, building out the idea into a fully functional product. We work primarily in the cloud native and distributed computing areas, though other areas are open for investigation as well. Our primary customers are software developers building applications in the cloud or on the edge. Our most recent successful project was Dapr which was incubated in partnership with the open source community and is now a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) project.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

As a critical member of the product management team delivering this open source project, you'll draw on deep experience in cloud native application development and operations. As well as developer and operator tools and technologies including Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), GitOps and platform engineering.

The following are examples of areas where you can have this impact:

  • Work with the Microsoft field to identify customers who might be interested in your project. From there you'll build relationships with top customers, using them to test ideas for this incubation.
  • Engage with the open-source community, building relationships as we continue incubating this technology with the open-source community. Success means Radius becomes a community project, not a Microsoft project.
  • Create clarity through customer reviews, community engagement, product reviews, and other mechanisms to ensure we are testing our incubations with customers. You have experience in areas like usability study methodology/practice, design thinking, outbound communications, and rigorous prioritization. Since our work is done in collaboration with the open source community, you ensure we are humble and supportive in sharing what customer problems we're trying to solve as well as why we've chosen our particular architecture.
  • You will enjoy learning. Because we work on the leading edge of cloud native computing and distributed computing, we'll rely on you to master new concepts quickly, leveraging your unique experiences to help us understand these concepts in relation to existing concepts.
  • "Hands On" approach with application development and operations technologies including different programming languages and frameworks, along with your understanding of cloud native technologies.
  • Embody our Culture and Values
