Overview

GitHub Next is GitHub’s advanced R&D team, tasked with building the future of software development. We created GitHub Copilot, the first large-scale application of LLMs, and we aim to continue leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize GitHub and hence the world-wide community of developers and creators who rely on it for their daily work.

You will be working with other members of Next as well as colleagues from elsewhere in GitHub and Microsoft on providing machine learning solutions to these challenges. Our projects range from creating entirely new products like GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Workspace to integrating new AI-powered capabilities into existing GitHub surfaces, such as Copilot for Docs. The common thread is that our projects exist at the intersection of research and practice and require a blend of research and engineering skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, design, train/fine-tune and deploy machine learning models.
  • Participate in projects to integrate artificial intelligence into developer tools.
  • Apply pretrained models to solve problems for software developers.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day running of Next: participate in our reading group, interviewing new candidates, and disseminating research results.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Either:
    • A Bachelor's degree + 5 years experience
    • A Master's degree or PhD + 3 years experience
  • Experience using an LLM-based tool (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience training or fine-tuning an LLM
  • An M.S. or PhD in computer science
  • One or more publications in top machine learning, natural language processing, programming languages, or software engineering conferences, such as ICML, NeurIPS, ACL, PLDI, ICSE, etc.

Nothing in life is perfect, including this job description. You may be an excellent fit even if you don’t meet all of these qualifications. We look forward to meeting you and hearing about your unique skills and experiences!
