Do you want to help scale out Microsoft Research’s most ambitious innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) space? We are building the future for AI and the world and are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager who can accelerate that future.

The Microsoft Research AI Frontiers group is doing foundational research, pursuing ambitious disruptions, and creating technological and societal impact. Our research spans multiple areas in Machine Learning such as foundational model training and fine-tuning, agent platform and evaluation.

As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will partner closely with researchers and engineers to create a strategy and roadmap for our most ambitious endeavors and drive the execution of projects that are meant to change the world. To be successful, we need people who are versed in Machine Learning, creative, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, and are deeply collaborative. Responsibilities

  • Partner with ML researchers and engineers to create clarity, identify the highest value opportunities, and drive execution.
  • Build partnerships with diverse collaborators and teams across and outside the company to create impact through our ambitious projects.
  • Manage ambiguity and define scale-out options that are well understood and executed across the team and partners.
  • Drive successful project outcomes by contributing to definition of research goals, success metrics and prioritization of deliverables.
  • Partner effectively with compliance, communications, finance, and strategy colleagues to build advocacy, business case and champion research projects.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the product management team and research program.
  • Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering AND 4+ years experience in technical program management or product development
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • 2+ years experience managing programs/products in the Machine Learning area
Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree AND 6+ years’ experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos)
  • Experience in creating product strategy, go-to-market approaches, and business cases
  • Experience managing open-source projects
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and concepts
  • Ability to handle critical situations with confidence, directing the team towards effective response
Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
