Responsibilities

  • Assists others in identifying opportunities and gaps in the implementation of a feature (e.g., product, service), including comparison of various quality and performance metrics to various solutions.
  • Begins to understand how their area fits into the product or service area. Develops problem statements and forms hypotheses of a new feature (e.g., product, service) to address business, program, and customer needs, and/or market opportunities. Performs experiments to test hypotheses and inform decisions on what feature (e.g., product, service) to introduce, with oversight from others. Partners with senior colleagues to establish clarity of the root problem with the customer. Works with guidance to ensure alignment between the customer, the market, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft. Begins to collaborate with others (e.g., Engineering, Marketing, Design) to ensure that they can satisfy customer requirements, with guidance. Begins to evaluate the opportunity for greatest value to the business. Learns to define solution options for a single feature.
  • Applies a prioritized framework to the feature (e.g., product, service) they own. Translates the needs of their team into team goals and prioritized deliverables, with oversight from others. Helps identify risks and escalates to senior levels for mitigation strategies.
  • Learns what the success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs], Key Performance Indicators [KPIs] such as quality and performance) of a single feature (e.g., product, service) are and how to execute against them. Works with Software and Hardware Engineering to ensure needed telemetry is developed. Understands the return on investment.
  • Assists others in partnering with the engineering team to contribute, prioritize, and deliver on the roadmap for a single feature (e.g., product, service). Learns the value proposition for the feature and how to answer technical questions on the feature they own.
  • Assists others who track, coordinate, and communicate end-to-end project schedules (e.g., epics, sprint/semester plans, milestones, timelines, releases) for a single feature (e.g., product, service). Helps monitor processes and hold stakeholders accountable for following the established schedule and processes. Learns to track and manage dependencies to enable cohesive, connected user scenarios.
  • Begins to partner with others (e.g., Data Science, Software and Hardware Engineering) to collect performance metrics (e.g., Key Performance Indicators [KPIs] such as usage, quality, speed, and cost), monitor and report on progress (e.g., business reviews), and derive insights that lead to productive courses of action to improve development, iteration, and implementation of a feature (e.g., product, service). Helps leverage customer listening systems, telemetry, engagements (e.g., interviews, surveys), etc., to develop insights on product and/or service performance and customer needs. Helps form hypotheses, perform experiments, and iterate to drive improvement in specific performance metrics.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 1+ year(s) experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Technical Program Management IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $76,400 - $151,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $100,300 - $165,400 per year.
