Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
Azure SQL Platform is guided by a visionary and transformative mission to revolutionize cloud database management and deliver the platform, service, and features, for running the world’s most critical workloads for millions of customers worldwide. We are looking for a Release Manager with engineering skills to join the team. You will have an opportunity to deliver the next generation of SQL platform designed for 100x customer and request volume.
You will:
. Oversee regular delivery of new features & fixes in Azure SQLDB across a large and complex fleet while ensuring the highest standards of quality & reliability and reacting to a dynamic landscape of customer maintenance & servicing needs.
2. Develop innovative technology for tracking and managing massive-scale payload rollout operations while adhering to safe deployment practices.
3. Interface directly with large engineering teams to continuously push holistic quality improvements, facilitate organizational delivery priorities, and improve their ability to clearly see the customer impact of their changes.
4. Partner closely with deployment platform engineers to improve system reliability and reduce friction in fleet management.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement and operate services, microservices and components.
- Build and maintain partnership between our team and teams operating services upstream and downstream.
- Establish customer connections and build insights into their business to feed back into design.
- Mentor and grow members of the team.
- Partner with Program Management, architects, and leaders to define requirements, scope projects and validate solutions.
- Release features on time, with high quality, meeting functional, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
- Research and adopt modern technology to improve quality of the service, increase customer value or reduce operating cost.
- Participate in on-call rotation for the team
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience
Additional Job Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred qualifications :
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience with distributed systems
- 2+ years of experience in designing and implementing service architectures on containers utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
