As the Senior Director, Product Marketing for Microsoft Purview Data Security & Compliance, you will lead the product marketing strategy and business growth for one of Microsoft's fastest-growing security businesses. You will partner closely with engineering, sales, and marketing leaders to drive customer adoption, product usage, revenue growth, and market leadership. You will shape business and go-to-market strategy through deep customer insight, market understanding, competitive analysis, and financial rigor. You will define positioning and messaging, influence product direction, lead launch and growth strategies, and serve as a visible evangelist for Microsoft Purview with customers, partners, analysts, and the broader industry. This role requires a leader who can combine strategic thinking with operational excellence, lead through influence across a highly matrixed organization, and build a healthy, diverse, and high-performing team grounded in Microsoft's culture and leadership principles.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Business and Market Strategy

  • Develop long-term growth strategy for Microsoft Purview Data Security & Compliance through deep customer understanding, market insights, competitive intelligence, and business performance analysis.
  • Partner with Engineering and Business Planning leaders to shape product vision, investment priorities, and strategic direction.
  • Identify emerging opportunities, anticipate market shifts, and influence investments that strengthen Microsoft’s competitive position and accelerate growth.

Product Positioning and Storytelling

  • Define and evolve the customer value proposition, positioning, messaging, and category narrative for Microsoft Purview Data Security & Compliance.
  • Ensure consistent, differentiated storytelling that clearly communicates customer challenges, product value, and business outcomes.
  • Lead development of integrated marketing assets, sales enablement content, demonstrations, presentations, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) that support customer acquisition, adoption, and expansion.

Go-to-Market Leadership

  • Lead product launches, growth initiatives, and key market programs for Microsoft Purview Data Security & Compliance.
  • Partner with Product Management, Sales, Customer Success, and Partner organizations to deliver revenue, usage, adoption, and market share objectives.
  • Establish success metrics, track business performance, and drive continuous optimization based on customer and market feedback.
  • Represent Microsoft Purview with customers, partners, analysts, media, and at industry events.

Sales Enablement and Revenue Growth

  • Drive field readiness, sales enablement content, and demonstrations that help sellers communicate customer value and win strategically important opportunities.
  • Partner with sales teams on key customer engagements, strategic deals, and executive conversations.
  • Serve as a marketing leader accountable for driving customer adoption, revenue growth, and commercial success.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Build trusted partnerships across Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Design, Research, and Partner teams.
  • Align stakeholders around shared priorities and drive execution across organizational boundaries.
  • Foster operational excellence, simplify complexity, and scale best practices to maximize organizational impact.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 6+ years experience in product marketing, product management, business planning, or related disciplines
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 8+ years experience in product marketing, product management, business planning, or related disciplines
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 12+ years experience in product marketing, product management, business planning, or related disciplines
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 15+ years experience in product marketing, product management, business planning, or related disciplines
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years people management experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives within highly matrixed organizations
  • Experience driving growth and go-to-market strategy for enterprise software, cloud security, data security, AI, governance, or compliance businesses
  • Experience influencing revenue growth, customer adoption, and market share outcomes
  • Experience scaling both mature businesses and emerging growth opportunities
  • Experience in security, data protection, compliance, governance, and AI market landscape, including customer needs, competitive dynamics, and industry trends


Product Marketing M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $155,800 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,400 - $303,600 per year.
