The role of Manufacturing Engineer II is part of the Microsoft Devices Operations, in the Windows & Devices organization.

The Manufacturing Engineer II role supports the design and implementation of production lines and automation systems to enhance manufacturing operations. This role contributes to the development and optimization of manufacturing processes to improve cost, quality, and cycle time, while supporting supplier performance and compliance. You will partner with engineering, sourcing, and supplier teams to ensure product designs meet manufacturability and sustainability requirements. The role includes participating in root cause analysis, supporting corrective actions, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across global manufacturing sites. The position requires a working knowledge of lean manufacturing, risk identification, and data-driven decision making. You will help implement automation, monitoring, and AI-enabled solutions to improve operational visibility and efficiency, while supporting new product introduction and the ongoing evolution of manufacturing capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • You will support development and standardization of manufacturing processes, tools, and best practices across suppliers and factory sites, driving yield improvement and production efficiency.
  • You will assist with driving cost and cycle time reduction through process and operational improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • You will contribute to the design and implementation of AI/ML, IoT, and data-driven models to detect anomalies, predict equipment failures, and reduce operational risk across manufacturing operations.
  • You will assist in supplier validation, performance tracking, and capacity assessment, while supporting engineering change execution and contributing to supplier performance insights (e.g., QBR).
  • You will support development of production processes, line capability, and factory readiness, including identifying risks such as schedule delays, capacity constraints, and technical gaps, and contributing to mitigation plans.
  • You will assist in implementing automation, SPC, digital monitoring, and defect detection systems, and support root cause analysis, structured problem solving, and quality improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in a manufacturing environment /repair.
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of enclosure and mechanical assembly manufacturing processes, with hands-on experience supporting enclosure production and process development.
  • Foundational understanding and application of product and statistical process control (e.g., MSA/GRR, FMEA, DOE), structured problem solving, and basic failure/defect analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and Six Sigma principles, including usage of tools such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Experience analyzing manufacturing and field return data to identify issues, with ability to support root cause investigation and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Proficiency with 3D design tools and other CAD suites. Knowledge in Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Mandarin and Vietnamese will be a plus.
  • Patent or track record of engineering excellence.
  • Manufacturing operations experience.
  • Experience with high accuracy automation system development and qualification.
  • Experience with design and implementation of AI/ML predictive models and remote monitoring for operational efficiency and risk reduction.
