About the job you’re considering
We are looking for a SONiC Test Framework Engineer to lead the design and development of a robust, scalable test infrastructure for SONiC-based network devices. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, open-source environment and is passionate about building automated testbeds from the ground up. You’ll play a key role in validating the functionality, performance, and scalability of SONiC in virtualized data center environments.
Your role
- Configure Devices Under Test (DUTs) and neighbor devices using minigraph XML and topology definition files.
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate testbed setup, SONiC configuration, and test execution.
- Write Python scripts for topology setup, test automation, and log analysis.
- Integrate automation workflows with the sonic-mgmt framework to streamline testing processes.
- Deploy and manage test automation frameworks like PTF (Packet Test Framework) to validate SONiC’s control plane and data plane.
- Generate and analyze network traffic using tools like Scapy and tcpdump to verify protocol behavior (e.g., BGP, VXLAN, VLANs).
- Execute functional, feature, and performance test cases, reporting results and identifying defects.
- Analyze logs from SONiC VMs, Docker containers, and virtual switches to pinpoint root causes.
- Contribute to the SONiC open-source community by sharing scripts, reporting issues, or submitting pull requests.
Your skills and experience
- 5+ years of experience building SONiC virtual testbeds using KVM, Docker, and Open vSwitch.
- Deep understanding of SONiC testbed architecture, Minigraph, and virtual topologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with BGP, VXLAN, VLANs, and L2/L3 protocols in SONiC environments.
- Proficiency in Bash scripting for automation and log collection.
- Experience creating and managing VMs using KVM, QEMU, and libvirt.
- Familiarity with configuring VM network interfaces to connect to virtual switches.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
