We are seeking a skilled and experienced Test Engineer to undertake comprehensive test planning and execution, focusing on API and UI automation as part of a managed service. The candidate should be proficient in using modern testing frameworks and be adaptable to integrating various testing tools into a cohesive framework. In addition, this role will require the individual to have Accessibility testing experience to ensure that applications meet accessibility compliance standards and deliver inclusive user experiences.
This role is hybrid, requiring two days a week in Newcastle.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.

Your role

  • Proficiency in a modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.) and familiarity with software engineering practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform including Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Pages and Dataverse.
  • Experience building and maintaining robust automated tests for UIs, APIs, and Power Platform (Canvas).
  • Ability to develop and improve frameworks and automation suites.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the testing lifecycle, including test generation, analysis, reporting, and defect management.
  • Experience working in agile environments and applying shift-left principles, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define and implement testing strategies based on holistic risk analysis.
  • Strong understanding of performance, security, and accessibility testing, including test types, tools, and standards.
  • Participate in non-functional testing such as performance, security, and accessibility using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions align with delivery goals.
  • Conduct accessibility testing for both UI and mobile applications to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA standards and Microsoft Accessibility Standards.
  • Use tools like JAWS, Dragon, and ZoomText to evaluate accessibility features and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure accessibility requirements are integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Document and communicate accessibility issues, including recommendations for resolution and improvement.
  • Stay up to date with accessibility guidelines, tools, and best practices to maintain compliance with current standards.
  • Perform functional testing alongside accessibility testing to ensure seamless user experiences for all users.

Your skills and experience

Mandatory Skills:

  • Experience of executing UI/API automation testing (within Power Platform environment)
  • Experience in Test preparation & Execution in general in a System Testing phase
  • Expertise in test automation tools especially within the Microsoft suite.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automation assets with tools like Jenkins, etc.
  • Knowledge of test life cycles, defect management processes, and risk/issue identification.
  • Proven experience testing applications for accessibility compliance using tools like JAWS, Dragon, and ZoomText.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and Microsoft Accessibility Standards for both UI and mobile applications.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform including Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Pages and Dataverse.
  • Ability to identify, document, and communicate accessibility issues effectively, with actionable recommendations for resolution.
  • ISTQB/ISEB certification in software testing (Foundation level or above) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Flexibility to travel and work at various locations during the project.
  • Individual must be a UK national and qualified for security clearance.

Essential Skills

  • Experience conducting functional testing to ensure seamless integration of accessibility features.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical accessibility findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to staying current with accessibility standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in testing both mobile and web-based UI applications for accessibility compliance.
  • PL-900 Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals accreditation

To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
