An Overview of the Role

As a global leader in strategy and transformation, Capgemini Invent provides industry-specific services and guidance to the world’s leading retail companies and brands.

Over the last 5 years, Capgemini Invent has achieved continued growth and are now seeking to recruit experienced retail experts to support the continued expansion in the Consumer Products and Retail sector.

Our retail business brings together skills and expertise from across the Capgemini Invent capability units and works closely with other service lines across the Group. We oversee a portfolio which covers some of the biggest names in UK retail, across the apparel, grocery, GM and Quick Service Restaurant sub-sectors. As part of a joint sector team with our Consumer Products business we work together where sector boundaries continue to blur with the rise of D2C and the face of traditional retail evolves. We believe in a ‘sustainable by default’ mindset, working closely with Capgemini Invent’s Centre of Excellence for sustainability to challenge our thinking and that of our clients.

First and foremost, you will be responsible for designing and delivering innovative solutions for some of the world’s largest retailers. Drawing on your knowledge and experience of store operations and transformation you will work collaboratively with Capgemini colleagues and our clients, supporting them to understand challenges and opportunities, design future models to address and realise these, and implement new solutions in their businesses. You will be working closely with colleagues from our Supply Chain, Customer Transformation and Analytics & AI teams to bring to life how the store of the future and its employees will operate for our clients. You will bring industry expertise, practical lived experience and a collaborative and can-do attitude that inspires progress and change in our clients.

The work we do in Store and Omnichannel Transformation can span from strategy and operating model briefs through to the business design and change elements of large-scale retail systems implementations. Helping head office, field and store-based functions to become more data- and insight-driven is also a key pillar of our work.

Innovation is at the heart of our retail business. In 2022 we opened Cornershop, an innovation store in east London, where we are trialing new concepts, partnering with start-ups and establishing co-innovation projects with new and existing clients. We believe seeing concepts in action, learning fast and scaling quick is a necessary capability for our clients to be disruptive in the market and keep pace with customer expectations. This spirit of rapid innovation transcends all our retail projects, be it the use of data science to prove complex supply chain hypotheses, building agility into core ERP landscapes or seeking new ways for retailers to engage with their customers.

Why This Role

As a Management Consultant in the business you’ll help set the direction, driving forward the business, model our values and behaviours, and coach and develop junior members of the team. Key expectations from this role include:

  • Demonstrating deep sector and sub-sector experience and knowledge in the workings of a retailer’s Retail Ops/Store function with experience in one or more of store management, store support, operations development, omnichannel operations, store colleague experience/people strategy
  • Building trusted client relationships through delivery excellence and bring your industry experience to bear
  • Supporting the growth and expansion of our team and supporting consultants from across Capgemini Invent working on our retail accounts by sharing your industry expertise and perspectives
  • Driving thought leadership and innovative solutions to take to our clients which challenge and stretch their thinking in your area of expertise

As part of your role you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the business and your own personal growth, through activities that form part of the following categories:

  • Business Development – Leading/contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitch contribution, client hosting at events.
  • Internal contribution – Campaign development, internal think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events & activities), offering development.
  • Learning & Development – Training to support your career development and the skills demand within the company, certifications etc.
